Second Annual Leticia Carson Symposium

Learn the story of Letitia Carson, one of Benton County's first Black residents (came to Oregon in 1845) and likely first black landowner in Oregon. Join a fieldtrip to her original homestead.

  • 8:30 a.m.-9 a.m.: Light breakfast, informal Leticia Carson Legacy Project updates
  • 9 a.m.-12:45 p.m.: Ten speakers in three panels
    • History: Zachary Stocks, Hailey Brink, Larry Landis
    • Land: Luhui Whitebear, Travis Mulliniks, Kelly Bosworth, Lauren Gwin
    • Legacy: Charlotte Epps, David Stucky, and a third speaker TBA
  • Lunch will be provided.
  • The field trip vans to Leticia Carson’s homestead leave from the Alumni Center after lunch and return by 5 p.m.
