Happiness Happens Day in Corvallis

August 8 is Happiness Happens Day and here's a quick list of what's making me happy in Corvallis, Oregon.

1. Beautiful Sunshine and Weather

I'm always tempted to complain when it's hot out, but then I look up at our gorgeous blue skies as I lay back and bask in the sun, and you know what? It's pretty spectacular. Celebrate our beautiful summer weather by heading outdoors. Maybe visit Alsea Falls or try out an easy hike. Remember to wear your mask and practice physical distancing!

2. Eating Outdoors

I love to relax at a shaded table and enjoy the cool breeze off the Willamette while I'm eating. It makes everything taste better. We have a ton of restaurants offering outdoor seating, too.

A good farmers market is the best thing in the world. Fresh fruits and veggies from local farms, lots of people-watching, plenty of goodies and treats to bring home - it's awesome. And we have a bunch of farmers markets in our area. Check out the Corvallis and Albany Farmers Markets, the Monroe Farmers Market (be sure to make an appointment to visit Lilliputopia's adorable little gift shop when you go), the Philomath Farmers Market, and the Sweet Home and Downtown Lebanon Farmers Markets!

4. Cooling Off at a Favorite Watering Hole

I have a confession to make: I can't actually swim. Not even a little bit. But nothing makes me happier than splashing around waist deep in the cold river on a hot day. There's plenty of great spots to dive in (or wade in, in my case) around Corvallis.

5. Sipping Wine at Local Wineries

Kicking back at a beautiful vineyard, enjoying the stunning views, and savoring a glass of Oregon wine? Yes, please! Our local tasting rooms are open right now, too, so you know where I'll be on a sunny weekend afternoon. A lot of them have extra guidelines and are requiring appointments right now, so if you head out to one, be sure to call ahead for the details. And don't forget to pick up your Heart of Willamette Wine Passport! The only thing that makes an afternoon at a local winery better is getting free tastings while you're there, after all.

Hey, did you know you can book a tour at Leaping Lamb Farm Stay? You can! You can visit for the day, tour the farm, pet the animals - including sheep, horses, Paco the donkey, baby lambs if you time it right - go hiking, play in the barn... It's so fun! How can you not be happy after touring around a farm and petting a donkey? You can't. It's impossible. I highly recommend trying it out. Book here.

7. Shopping

Yeah, I know it's kind of a cliche "girl thing" to be into shopping, but I love some retail therapy. I love walking around downtown to window shop. I love wandering through stores to find cool new things - popping into Burst's Chocolates for a Bordeaux truffle, stopping in to see what Inkwell's Home Store has on sale, seeing what's new at ReStyle, picking up new-to-me clothes at Second Glance, getting new makeup at Seoul Sisters Boutique... There are so many great little locally-owned shops in downtown Corvallis. I feel like I'm always finding someplace new!

8. Road Tripping

Going for a drive always makes me happy - especially around here. The scenery is so beautiful. One of my favorite drives is along Highway 34 - it's just gorgeous, and so much fun. I always try to stop and pick up a pie from the Benton County Pie Company. I'm a big fan of the Shortbread Peach Crumble Pie - it's to die for, and it will not fail to make you happy.
