Partnership with National Forest Creates Unique Camping Experience

Individuals looking to reserve lodging along the Alsea River may be interested in the rental cabin operated by Benton County Natural Areas and Parks. Rates, interior photos, and a reservation system can be found online.

Earlier this year, the Siuslaw National Forest approved a permit allowing Benton County Natural Areas and Parks to make improvements to the former guard station and operate it as a rental cabin. The cabin, located on the western edge of Alsea, was a former ranger’s residence and guard station office. The Alsea Guard Station has historic significance as being the only Depression era guard station remaining in the Siuslaw District.

The cabin has been updated with central heating, hot and cold running water, a full-size refrigerator, microwave, and furniture to sleep seven individuals within the two bedroom, one and a half bath cabin. The guard station’s location across from a county park with a boat ramp to the Alsea River makes the site particularly appealing to individuals looking to fish for salmon or a quiet retreat on the river.

Visitors can utilize an online reservation system to view available dates, and rental discounts are available for seniors and veterans. For more information call the Benton County Natural Areas & Parks office at 541-766-6871.
