Candlelight & Carols: Vivaldi's Gloria

The Corvallis Repertory Singers, Corvallis’ premiere master singing ensemble, is pleased to perform its traditional Candlelight & Carols concert on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 16, at 3 p.m. Performances are held at the acoustically brilliant First United Methodist Church (1165 NW Monroe, Corvallis).

Vivaldi’s Gloria

Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) composed his Gloria for a girls’ orphanage choir, Ospedale della Pietta, in Venice. Vivaldi was a priest, music teacher and virtuoso violinist. His Gloria in D is his best-known sacred work. A joyful hymn, it is often performed during the holiday season. The score is divided into 12 movements. The Gloria in "Excelis Deo," "Et in Terra Pax Hominibus" and "Gratias Agimus Tibi" are among the most popular segments. Although Vivaldi’s Gloria is thought to have been composed in 1715, the full score was not discovered until the 1920s.

This year's soloists will be Emma Nissen, soprano; Larissa Zens, soprano; and Caitlyn Douglas, mezzo.

Mini-Messiah Sing-along

Come sing with the Repertory Singers! Everyone loves the Hallelujah Chorus of Handel’s Messiah. CRS will offer a "Mini-Messiah Sing-Along" at their Dec. 15 and 16 Candlelight & Carols concerts. If you want to experience the thrill of singing with the choir and orchestra, don't miss this year's concerts. The Repertory Singers will have some scores available to share, or you can bring your own.

Season tickets are $60 for all three concerts: Vivaldi’s Gloria, Dec 15-16; Haydn’s The Creation, Feb. 10; and Willson’s The Music Man, April 13-14. Single concert tickets range from $18 to $25, depending on the concert and seating level. Tickets are available at various Corvallis and Albany business locations, online at, or by mailing a form to P.O. Box 121, Corvallis, OR 97339.
