3 Splash-Worthy Spots to Take Your Dog Swimming in Corvallis

Summer’s here, and your dog’s ready to trade sniffing trails for splashing tails. Luckily, Corvallis (and our neighbors in Philomath) offer some fantastic spots where your pup can cool off and soak up the season. Whether you’ve got a Labrador who thinks they’re part fish or a cautious toe-dipper, these three local favorites are perfect for a summer swim with your four-legged friend.

1. Crystal Lake Sports Fields: Calm Eddies on a Quiet Trail

Tucked just south of town, Crystal Lake Sports Fields (100 SE Fischer Lane) isn’t just for ball games. Follow the dog-friendly, multi-use trail that leads off to the right of Willamette Landing and you’ll find two calm, inviting eddies along the river - ideal for a doggy dip. The first one has a sandy beach area, and the second smaller area is about a ¼ mile further. These calm eddies are perfect for pups who prefer gentle water and fewer distractions. (Heads-up: dogs do need to be leashed near the boat ramp, so keep an eye on signage.)

2. Michaels Landing (North Riverfront Park): A Local Favorite for River-Ready Dogs

Locals know it as Michael’s Landing, but officially, it’s North Riverfront Park (7 NW 1st Street), and it’s one of the top spots in town for letting dogs splash around in the Willamette River. During the summer, lower water levels open up a wide, gently sloping bank that makes it easy for pups to wade in and swim. While the shoreline is more river stones than sandy beach, it’s a go-to for dog owners looking for a reliable, laid-back swimming spot.

Bonus: it’s right next to the pet-friendly Holiday Inn Express on the River, making it a great stop if you’re visiting Corvallis with your furry travel buddy.

3. Marys River Park: A Hidden Gem in Philomath

Just a quick drive west, Marys River Park (300 S. 11th in Philomath) is a sweet little escape with both a designated off-leash area and access to the Marys River. The river is more rustic here - think natural banks and shaded nooks - so it’s a great place for dogs who like to explore. The park’s northern field gives them space to zoom before (or after) a dip.

  • Pack the leash: Some spots allow off-leash play, but others don’t—so bring the leash and follow posted rules.
  • Bring fresh water: River water can be tempting, but it’s safer to bring your own for drinking.
  • Clean up after your pup: Always a good move (and appreciated by fellow park-goers).
  • Life jackets aren’t just for humans: A float vest is a great idea—especially for smaller dogs, older dogs, or those new to swimming.
  • Grab a pet first aid kit: Just in case. You can pick one up at Peak Sports Bike & Outdoor or Animal Crackers right here in Corvallis.
