Fort Hoskins History Day

Fort Hoskins History Day is a vibrant celebration of the rich cultural heritage and history of the Willamette Valley, offering visitors an immersive experience through demonstrations and activities that highlight traditional crafts and storytelling.

Musicians will perform traditional tunes while a storyteller and other presentations connect the past to the present. Visitors will leave with a deeper understanding of the heritage that shapes the Willamette Valley today.

Skilled artisans will showcase their talents in:

  • Basket weaving: patterns and techniques reflect the deep-rooted cultural significance of this craft.
  • Lacemaking: the delicate artistry involved in creating exquisite lace patterns.
  • Dentalium beadwork: a traditional Indigenous art form that utilizes small, ancient shells as decorative elements
  • Needle felting: enabling participants to create unique felted pieces
  • Traditional woodworking and blacksmithing: providing insights into these age-old practices
  • Wool spinning: transforming raw wool into yarn
  • Native-style paper masks for families and children
