Corvallis-Gondar Walk 4 Water

The annual Corvallis-Gondar Walk 4 Water, sponsored by the Corvallis-Gondar Sister Cities Association will be held at the Benton County Fairgrounds on May 18th.

In Ethiopia most families in rural areas have no access to clean water. Many people, mostly girls and women, have to walk long distances to obtain water for their families. In Ethiopia the average distance to water is about 5 kilometers. Many girls cannot go to school because they spend so much time getting water.

The Corvallis-Gondar Sister Cities Association organizes the annual 5K Walk for Water to help raise funds to provide drinking water for people in Corvallis' Sister City Gondar, Ethiopia. All proceeds raised from the annual Walk for Water go directly toward costs to construct wells for people in Gondar, Ethiopia.

In 2019 the Corvallis-Gondar Sister Cities Association is raising money to add to the more than 20 wells they've built in the rural area outside of Gondar.

In addition to the 5K walk activities will include children's activities, Ethiopian music, a "Market Village" with vendors and information booths, and Ethiopian food.

  • 8:30am - Check-in or register
  • 9:30am - 5K walk begins
  • 10:00 am to 1:00 pm - "Market Village"
  • Cost: $10 for individual walkers, $30 for family walkers

If you can walk 5K you can help an Ethiopian family get clean drinking water.
