Willamette Valley Bird Symposium

Mark your calendars! The 11th annual Willamette Valley Bird Symposium is scheduled for Saturday, February 1, 2025. The Willamette Valley Bird Symposium is a single-day event bringing people together to celebrate birds.

This year's speakers include Kenn Kaufman, Gabriel Sandoval, and Dr. Jenna Curtis.

Short lecture topics will include:

  • Tail of turmoil: impacts of freezing rain on avian tail feathers (Olivia Noonan)
  • The beauty of science: how art can help protect and conserve birds (Tara Kate)
  • Lights Out OSU: update on the project to protect birds from window collisions (Jayshaun Talbert)
  • Flamingo conservation in the High Andes (Alex Jahn)
  • How YOU can help us study Oregon’s seabirds (Will Kennerley)
  • Effects of environment on early development of Adelie Penguins (Nadia Swanson)
  • Cryptic diversity in Evening Grosbeaks revealed by call types (Will Kirsch)
  • Making bird distribution maps work better (Betty Shen)
