Fourth season lineup of OSU’s ‘SAC Presents’ series announced

SAC Presents,” a visual and performing arts events series presented by the School of Arts and Communication at Oregon State University, will return for its fourth season in 2018-19.

SAC Presents brings well-known headliners, rising stars and unique, lesser known artists and ensembles to the community. The lineup of artists represents a broad spectrum of music genres as well as other types of performers and speakers.

This season’s events include:

  • Branford Marsalis Quartet, 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 14. The renowned jazz saxophonist leads the ensemble, which also features Joey Calderazzo on piano, Eric Revis on bass and Justin Faulkner on drums.
  • Childsplay, featuring Irish singer Karan Casey, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14. Childsplay features instrumentalists ranging from all-Ireland and Scottish fiddle champions to members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The show also features National Heritage award-winning Irish step-dancer Kevin Doyle and Pilobolus dance theater member Molly Gawler.
  • Angelique Kidjo, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019. A three-time GRAMMY Award winner with 13 albums, Kidjo combines West African traditions of her childhood in Benin with elements of American R&B, funk and jazz, and influences from Europe and Latin America. The concert is in conjunction with OSU’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration.
  • Oregon Symphony, 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2019. The Oregon Symphony, conducted by Markus Stenz, will present classical works including Ludwig von Beethoven’s Symphony No.1 in C; “Fratres” by Avro Pärt and Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 3 in E-flat “Rhenish.”
  • Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2019. The world-touring performance troupe will present “Voces del Sur," a glimpse into the land of Andalucía, the southern region of Spain known as the “cradle of flamenco.” The group’s dancers and musicians pay tribute to the unique culture of Andalucía.
  • Turtle Island Quartet with Cyrus Chestnut, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2019. Chestnut, a master jazz pianist, and the GRAMMY Award-winning Turtle Island Quartet collaborate on a range of pieces.
  • Jenny Scheinman & H. Lee Waters: Kannapolis - A Moving Portrait, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2019. A live music and film performance featuring the work of H. Lee Waters, who documented over 118 small towns in the American southeast between 1936 and 1942. Scheinman and filmmaker Finn Taylor have melded these images to Scheinman’s music, creating a new film with live performance and a score performed by an ensemble of bluegrass musicians.

Discounted season ticket packages and four-performance mini-plans are now on sale online and by phone through Oct. 14. Individual performance tickets also are on sale. Buy tickets online or call 541-737-5592.
