Corvallis as a Destination

From our beginning as The Corvallis Convention & Visitors Bureau, part of the Corvallis Area Chamber, to becoming an independent organization in 1997, Corvallis Tourism Convention & Visitors Bureau, our mission has been to actively promote Corvallis as a destination for visitors and conventions.

Develop Tourism that is Compatible with Corvallis

Corvallis Tourism is a nonprofit 5O1 (C6) tourism development organization which contracts with the City of Corvallis to develop long-term tourism growth compatible with the Corvallis lifestyle. We are a membership organization representing components of the visitor industry including:

  • Hotels, Motels, B&Bs, Campgrounds & RV Parks
  • Convention & Meeting Facilities
  • Restaurants
  • Sports Facilities
  • Tour Operators
  • Wineries/Attractions
  • Transportation Companies
  • Retail and Commercial organizations relating to tourism

Corvallis Tourism has four divisions to its organizational structure:

  1. Convention and Sports Group sales and servicing focuses on bringing large groups of people into town for multiple day conferences or sporting events.
  2. Leisure tourism marketing promotes Corvallis as a destination or a stop-over for people on vacation.
  3. Visitor Information Services provides information once visitors reach Corvallis to assist them in getting around town.
  4. Research and Industry Information. As a member of the Tourism Travel & Research Association, the Travel Industry of America, we provide analysis and marketing information regarding tourism in our area

Reinvesting in Our City

The Bureau submits an annual marketing plan to the City as a condition for receipt of a portion of the transient occupancy tax revenues paid by guests staying in our lodging facilities. The lodging community and the City agreed that a transient occupancy tax would be reinvested into marketing the City and thereby creating more tourism. Part of the tax also helps support other Corvallis services. Therefore, Corvallis Tourism assists in the production of a tax that helps maintain the quality lifestyle of Corvallis.

Other funding sources may include:

  • Membership dues
  • Commissions obtained from conventions and sports groups
  • Conference Reservation System
  • Corvallis promotional items sold in the Visitors Center
  • Web-site advertising
  • Cooperative ventures with tourism partners
